APPLE WALNUT COBBLER

Spoon through rich cake-like topper to a juicy, flavorful apple-walnut filling. 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 3/4 c. coarsely chopped California walnuts 4 c. thinly sliced, pared tart apples 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1 well beaten egg 1/2 c. evaporated milk 1/3 c. butter, melted

Mix 1/2 cup sugar, the cinnamon and 1/2 cup of walnuts. Place apples in bottom of a greased 8 1/4" x 1 3/4" round baking dish. Sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture. Sift together dry ingredients. Combine egg, milk and butter; add dry ingredients, all at once and mix until smooth. Pour over apples; sprinkle with remaining walnuts. Bake at 325 degrees about 55 minutes or until done. Spoon warm cobbler onto dessert plates; top with cinnamon whipped cream, or ice cream. Makes 8 servings.
